Physical,
Occupational,
and Speech Therapy
Provided by Legacy Healthcare Services
Physical Therapy is designed to re-educate muscles to work,
to retrain other parts of the body to function, and to teach residents how to manage
a disability with or without equipment. The focus is on
mobility in bed, in a wheelchair, or when walking. This
mobility is accomplished through strengthening and range
of motion exercises, balance and coordination exercises.
Occupational Therapy instructs the resident toward maximizing
independence, whether it be through relearning to perform
daily activities or being instructed to provide assistance
in self care activities. This includes eating, bathing,
dressing, grooming, and hygiene. It may also include perceptual
and cognitive skills including judgment, motor planning,
problem solving, spatial orientation and adaptive equipment.
Speech Language Pathologists diagnose and treat all types
of communication and swallowing disorders. Residents with
communication disorders or swallowing problems are evaluated
by the Speech Language Pathologist and an individual
treatment plan is implemented.
